For the past month, my apartment has been using a Netgear unsecure wireless connection that is broadcasted throughout our entire apartment complex. There was a big thunderstorm last week, thus causing the power to go out on repeatedly. Ever since the storm, I have not been able to use the internet through Netgear. Netgear has full strength and it allows me to connect, but when I try to load an internet window, it says No Server.
Sometimes there is a Default unsecured wireless option available. I am able to connect to that as well and have no problem using the internet through it. But it is much slower, has a weaker signal, and is not always available as an option. Any clue why the full signal Netgear is no longer working?

whoever has access to router applied security which prevents anybody without the correct code from connecting

Hm, okay, that's confusing in 2 ways. The first way is because I was told the Netgear was implemented by my school since they took over my apartment complex. And the second reason is I thought added security meant wireless networks were made secure instead of unsecure.

that slow unsecured network is some other router and not the one your school controls. Can't you ask whoever at school to give you the passkey?
