Where have all the Christians gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the Christians gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the Christians gone?
I guess they must've gone to heaven, every one.
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

With apologies to Pete Seeger, a person with more claim to godliness than any of the preceding historical pantheon.

The appearance of Christians or others of "faith" has become entirely too spotty. They start threads then abandon them when the going goes not to their liking. They make accusations then ignore requests for evidence.

I'm getting to the point where seemingly it is futile to attempt social intercourse with the little people. It's time they brought out the big guns.

Yeah, I'm talking about you, "God". Here and now. You and me. Mano a Deo. You want a piece of me, huh? C'mon big guy. Let's do it. I wanna see if you really have the big brass ones. No more hiding behind acolytes, apologists, or mythology.

I know "You" are out there. Just recently you answered little Timmy's prayers. No,' Says God.
You respond to lawsuits; God Answers Law Suit.
And I've heard that "You" answer kneemail, and apparently you repond to emails Email God, though after half a dozen attemps I have had no response whatsoever (go figure).

So get yourself an avatar (I might suggest "Mary", cyber cross-dressing being all the rage), and high yourself on down here to Castlecops Religion forum and clear up this schlamozzle people call religion. Your vast historical references, oh wait, I guess I mean the bible, clearly show you interacting with humanity. Well buddy, now's the time.

If you can.

Oh, by the by, in the old days "You" apparently had an itchy trigger finger for the most trivial of transgressions; Lot's wife for looking, Onan for sowing the wrong seed in the ground, 3000 for dancing naked around a golden calf, Aaron's sons for offering strange fire before the Lord, A man who picked up sticks on the Sabbath, 50,070 for looking into the Ark, Uzzah for trying to keep the ark from falling, a man for not killing a prophet, "You" sent two bears to kill children for making fun of Elisha's bald head, "You" killed Jehoram by making his bowels fall out, 24,000 for "committing whoredom with the daughters of Moab" (not that there's anything wrong with that). The entire population of the world, including all the animals except two of each that won some kind of lottery, and a naked drunk and his family. Innocent babies. And of course "You killed your own son. And well, thousands more, and those are just the ones we "know" about. Hands down, you win the award for most prolific serial killer of all time.

And how many do you think Ol' Slewfoot (the alleged bad guy) killed during this time? Ten. And " God" gave them over to Big Red as, well, playthings, I guess. The ten were the seven sons and three daughters of Job. It happened like this.

God and Beezelbub were kicking back one day, probably knocking back a few (and you know how some guys get when they're zonked on plonk), probably nude, too (I mean, really, would "God" be modest?). So anyway, "God" says to Lucy "Hey Satan, you old bag o' dirt, see Job there? OK, check this out. Now ol' Job there, he's your perfect, upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? Right?" To which Serpent Breath responds with, "Oh yeah, well just try getting handy with him and his and see if he doesn't curse thee even unto your face, you old Divine Wind.". " Aw man, I mean demon", sez "God" I'm feeling kinda lazy, and besides, I've had a few and really shouldn't drink and omnipresence. Tell you what. I'm in my happy magnamanous place today, so all he has, kit and kin, I give to you." "Mighty big of you, Big Guy." says Old Horney. "But listen, Goat Breath," sez "God, with a glint in his eye, "that was kit and kin. Spareth Job. I'm gonna go down and smite the crap out of the little ingrate and then I have a writing job for him later".

"Okey dokey", sez Lucifer, and sashays off, unmindful of his degree of intoxication, being the "evil one" and all. Now ol' Asmodeous, being in his cups, wasn't at his most imaginative at this point, and unable to come up with a truly devious plot, settled for collapsing the house on Job's seven sons and three daughters at dinnertime. And apparently, biblically speaking, never killed again, or before. And the one time he did kill was a gift from "God". Book of Job

OK, I got a little side tracked there. My point being that "God", killer extrordinaire of biblical lore, has retired from that work and no longer takes a direct hand in slaughter. So those of you who may fear the heavy hand of "God's" retribution upon my head may rest assured.

It will not happen.

well I have had a few & Never wuz very good at the "serious" omnipotentizing (except for when I was really little. Hey & don't all or most little kids believe themselves to be omnipotent? Isn't it like a phase or something?) I just never wanted to grow up. I did have quite a happy childhood & so on.

& all this stuff that other people say is just plain bullsh** (other people really are h***o) AS IF Name(less) really cares what puny little humans say, think or do?

At least You have Courage unlike most. & I am just simply flabbergasted at the amount of asinine things that have been said in the name of? or on behalf of? Name(less)

This is something I could never quite come to terms with. How could people think that an entity so vast as to exist within an unimaginably immense god-o-sphere would seed one insignificant dust mote of a planet with imperfect, fractious, all-but-lost in the scale of everything mortal entities so they can worship it (the Immense Entity). What would be the point? Mythology holds that the "God" is all, within "him"self. How could such an entity realise a need for such an infinitesimaly puny fix of "adoration"? A little self esteem problem. Apparently it' omni-auto-esteemish. Does it have some personality disorder? No, apparently it's omnipersonality.

I think the root of that particular idea lies in human hubris and deist chauvinism.

I believe it was Golda Meir who said, "Don't be so humble, you're not that great."

That is the point (meaning there is No Point to a God creating a Universe (including All Living Things in it) in order to be worshipped by said creation.) Pretty small-minded wouldn't You say? Like people who want to have children & then consider those children to be servants to their own needs. Creation for the sole purpose of worship? Why Not clone yourself if you want little "carbon copies" (ha ha) of yourself who won't talk back or come up with new ideas? & then the cycle of abuse & stagnation continues 'cause those kids have kids & they teach the same (asinine) things to their kids.

Life itself is a Beautiful Gift. It can be short & sweet. Or long & wonderful or any variation falling somewhere on that spectrum. To take that Gift & throw it away or to want to "take control" of others is an abuse & misuse of that Gift (imho) (& I like that Golda Meir quote2)

i gotta go. bye. luv/peace/respect,
JoAnn

oh & I do like Mythology, Sacred Words, Symbology & the Greek & Roman Gods & Goddesses too - I'm a little quirky that way.

Ya Know JACQ & Ekrubtap Wink

Atheists are "Bad" people because they don't believe in a Moral Majority of a "God" nor any other "Diety".

Me...I'd be out in A NY minute to help someone in trouble! Also I have a big heart! Too big sometimes & I have gotten taken advantage of BAD. I'm extremely "Bénévolent".

There is a Multi-Faith church where the Gays, etc. go. When I 1st walked in, there were people from thier 30's + gossiping about others. So, just because I don't go to thier church means I'm BAD? Many know me. The Gays especially & say David, you're too good to people. You don't have a violent bone in your body unless under "duress". (I am Irish eh?)

They get outta church & I'm on my front patio having a dbl Vodka & T.J. with a stalk of Celery as a stirring stick. I play "Country Gospel" Laughing (No actually I like it. I'm eclectic to the extreme when it comes to music.)

They leave church in a hurry to either get drunk or gossip some more & I know they gossip behind my back because I'M NOT a "Real" Christian who goes to church, et al. They say Hi & I say Hi back, but they NEVER stop to talk to me. Hmmm I wonder why? Skeletons in the closet. The Gays come out of a closet...Why I ask you can't they take thier Skeletons out? Ponder That, if you will. They are "real" Christians & don't even stop to talk for even 5 mins, and if I ask, they say "I'm in a hurry"...In a hurry for what I ask. Reply, I have a lot of work to do today. So why are you working on The "Sabbath Day"? No answer & the Sabbath is supposed to be Saturday anyhow. Me don't do nothin' but enjoy myself on Saturdays.

Anyhow, I'll close in saying there are wayyyy too may Judgemental & Hypocritical people out there who think Atheists, Agnostics, etc, are "BAD" people. REALLY, IDGAF anymore. I think the back-stabbing is absolutely deplorable. If anyone has anything to say about me, they can say it to my FACE!!!

I'm just a plain 'ol "Heathen" (But ya are Blanche, Ya Are!!!) in most "Christian's eyes Rolling Eyes

That's It...Take Good Care +...

Peace! heart

As I was driving into town this morn, I heard a phrase uttered on the news that I thought must be about the saddest phrase I've ever heard uttered. It was, "a history of violence and abuse in the home." Maybe that's what he meant when he allegedly said, "suffer the little children unto me".
I've been a lifelong pacifist, but child abuse stirs me to levels of anger that put me in danger of abandoning that position. But that would just be a continuation of the cycle. I could damn near cry for the little kids though. Original sin my rosy derierre.

David. Take no notice of the "talking behind your back". That is a character flaw in those who particpate. It has naught to do with who you strive to be. Hi "Bad" People Rolling Eyes

I totally agree with your post ekrubtap Thumbs Up I hardly say a word anymore because I know the "Real" me.

Atheists, Agnostics (Hiya Wog Smile), et al. IDGAF anymore. Let them do what they gotta do is what I say.

I know who "I" am, That I am a good person & nobody in thier right mind can dispute that. Wog's a good person. I don't know him personally, but I love his posts. Especially when E & ZZ (not so bad ZZ), were here. I bet they were thinking "Heathens" G.D. Heathens. I just bet they have way too many skeletons in thier closets Laughing

Oh well, that's all I have to say right now. I've really given up on these people & the Multi-Faith Chappell is 1/2 block away from me. I do have friends who get rides home, but I consider them friends as well. One admitted to me he wasn't a true Christian, but liked to go to church to hear words of faith. Not Judgment & Hypocrisy! He's even overheard people about me & dis dat & de udder ting. Tells them there Christians are way over the top! Rolling Eyes

Anyhow, All Take Care & Peace! beam me up

Where have all the Christians gone? Perhaps only a small number have ever existed in the first place:

But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. Matthew 7:14

Why don't the small number spend a lot of time in extended debate? Perhaps a clue can be found here:

My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power. 1 Corinthians 2:4-5

Just pondering the question...

Matthew 28:19- Therefore go and make disciples of all nations
Acts 1:8- But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
Romans 1:16 - I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
1 Peter 3:15 - But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,
Hebrews 10:25 - Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Etc, etc. Don't you think you have a religious duty to fulfil here. Not only here, but you should be out pounding the pavements, elbowing aside Amwayorites, Mormans, and Mary Kayites, clawing and scratching for your piece of the public dollar. Turning silk ears into sow's purses, as it were.

Do I think the outnumbered Christians have a duty to tell the vast sea of unsaved the good news that they can be saved? Absolutely, the only question I was pondering was how does the Bible instruct Christians to go about this duty.

My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power. 1 Corinthians 2:4-5

This would seem to imply that Christians are instructed to work miracles, then answer questions by those convinced by the miracles. That is, don't try to convince others solely with debate, but by miracles. Preach the Gospel, confirm it with miracles, then instruct those so convinced what the Bible teaches them to do.

In the passage you quoted:

Acts 1:8a- "But you will receive power..."

Power, interesting...

And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen. Mark 16:20 KJV

Confirming the word with signs, interesting.

Just pondering...
