Hello all:

I have run AVG in safe mode and removed everything found also have run Adaware. I am still getting many popups and am unable to re-enable Windows updates. I have installed SP3.

Hi markamus!

I will get one posted ASAP. I have given the PC back to the owner after I did as much as I could and was able to get online without dozens of popups bogging the system down.

I know that it isnt completely clean yet but it was usable again and it was her only PC to use.

Remove one of your Anti Virus programs.
You are operating your computer with multiple Anti Virus programs running in memory at once:
Symantec and AVG

Anti-virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. Having two anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even, in rare cases, crash.

Please uninstall one of them and then post back with a fresh HijackThis log.

Very strange....i'm 99% sure i removed Symantec when I was asked to help with the notebook. It had been expired for several months and thats how most of the infection got on there I believe.

Anyway, Yes I will get back on the machine and see what I can do.

Symantec rarely uninstalls smoothly.

Download and run the Symantec Removal Tool. This should clean up the remnants left by Symantec.

Once this has been done, post back with a fresh HijackThis log for me to review please.

Open HJT by navigating to your HijackThis folder and double clicking on HijackThis.exe. Select the second button entitled "Do a system scan only".
Now select the followng entries by placing a tick in the left hand check box

Once you have selected all entries, close all running programs then click once on the "fix checked" button to clear the entries from your log.

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from Here or Here
Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

• Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  
• Once the program has loaded, select Perform Quick Scan, then click Scan.
  
• The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  
• Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  
• When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  
• The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  
• Copy&Paste the entire report along with a fresh HijackThis log in your next reply.
