i went to windows update and clicked check for updates and my only update left is vista sp1. do i still have to update drivers. i don't know how to update them and i have a logitech usb mouse for my dell inspiron 1521 laptop. i bought my laptop in about october or november of 2007.

There shouldn't be any driver-related problems after you install SP1. The only problems that have been reported are those linked to software compatibility (especially security software) but most of them have been fixed by now.

Actually, even if you are using the most updated drivers many people are still experiencing issues with drivers that abruptly stop working - the deal is make sure that all your drivers are up to date - since yours is a laptop, go to the manufacturer's webpage and look for the most recent drivers. Download them and keep them handy.

Install SP1 and reboot as required. Now, update all the drivers to the newest versions.

This pretty much assures that any issues you might run into should be quashed from the get go.
