That sounds a bit of a pointless exercise, well - the IMDB part at least. I can see how someone might try to knock a retailer offline and try and get some money out of them in order to stop, but the IMDB ?
The last time I looked the IMDB users weren't active members of the anti-spammer community or speaking out against fraud etc. Sounds like a soft target to me. Well done, whoever is responsible - you really are a big player and we're all scared of you. I think someone is still getting bullied at school.

A lot of strange attacks like these which seem to have no motive are done by kids that are simply ticked off with the website for some silly reason. They may of been banned from a forum or similar.
Idiots.

I got a spam today about Amazon being unavailable and postulating their stock price would drop. Well, I think that's what it said; it was in pretty broken English. But this may have to do with stock manipulation, maybe someone selling short.

According to this article at The Register:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/06/09/more_amazon_outages/
... IMDB is owned by Amazon and shares some of their IP address range, as such I would say having read this that the IMDB was simply collatteral damage. That article also suggests it may have something to do with bulk buying PS3 bundles... not sure about that one, doesn't seem like a very good tactic for getting your hands on a few consoles to me.

As stated in a previous post, about it being kicks who may have been banned. You are spot on the money there mate.
I have recently had a bunch of kids who were jealous of some information we withheld from them for various reasons, and they decided to DDoS my forum demanding $1000 ransom! Ridiculous!
What's even more stupid is my forum is smalltime housing only 600 members.
