Anybody using proxo or a hosts file with Opera 9.50?
From: http://www.opera.com/docs/changelogs/windows/950/#security

Opera now distinguishes between local servers on localhost, intranet servers, and remote servers on the Internet.
Local servers can use remote resources, but not vice versa.
|
I've seen some reports this feature is breaking hosts file blocking among other things.
I was going to give 9.50 a try, but if I can't use proxo and a hosts file, I guess not.

Opera 9.50 works fine with Proxomitron and/or a blocking hosts file.

I am using proxo (sidki's config) and hosts files with Opera 9.5. So far I didn't notice any major problems.
It had been in some beta versions of 9.5 that the Google Theme filter doesn't work, which uses local css and images, but that was then fixed in later beta versions.
HTH.

Thank you both for replying, thats good to hear.
This is what got my attention:
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r20639295-HOSTS-file-issues

The new Opera 9.50 may not play well with any site that resolves to localhost IP 127.0.0.1
...snip...
This Opera is also unpredictably not connecting to a proxy on this machine (also a localhost specification).
|
In addition to proxo, I also use the HostsServer bundled with HostsMan from:
http://www.abelhadigital.com/
Hopefully, the local proxy problem mentioned above is an isolated incident.
Nevertheless, I'm going to wait awhile before trying 9.50.
As far as I'm concerned, any issues with Opera not connecting to a local proxy would be unacceptable.

I read that topic and the linked topic at my opera forum. It seems that opera 9.5 is now handling the hosts file as what the developer said at http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=226872&t=1214295232&page=1#comment2524625

FYI: Blocks of 127.0.0.1 will now (in upcoming versions) be handled the same as Connection Refused from a 127.0.0.1 host with a non-"localhost" name. They will then be handled as if the content-length is 0, for example resulting in blank frames.
|
When a test site was opened in Internet Explorer, it produced entries in HostsServer Log Viewer but when opened in Opera, it produced no entries.

I have never met the local proxy problem.

Very revealing, thanks for checking.

I haven't seen any other reports of it.
Must be an isolated incident or maybe a cache issue.
