|
|
My ThinkPad T21 died a while back and here I am with Vista Home Premium on a Dell 1525. OK to call it Vista HP? I jumped from Win 2K and have no knowledge of XP. Is the Vista Firewall good enough? Is Erunt necessary now with System Restore-and finally my ability to burn to both CD and DVD to make backups.
Along with the installed Windows Defender and Malicious Retrieval Tool, I've downloaded Avira, SuperAntiSpyware and Advanced WindowsCare. Am I in a decent anti-malware position?
How do I add a Safe Removal icon to the system tray? And I'm having a heck of a problem with blocked startup programs. Any ideas about getting around this? I've tried Taskbar Properties, Startup and Notification Trays.
Will appreciate the gracious help and advice I've become used to. _________________ The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

use windows defender/tools to control startup progs
http://malektips.com/windows_defender_0010.html
Not sure what is the use of advance windows care but other progs complement the security. Although vista firewall is good it is not easy to configure so try either ZA free, Comodo or PC Tools firewall

Advanced WindowCare out and PC Tools Firewall in. Used to use Online Armor; PC Tools is much easier to configure, etc. Thanks. _________________ The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

Trend Micro also has a program available to reinforce Windows Defender. the link is here.
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/os_protections
Windows Defender is a wonderful program that is perfect if you dont have someting else like Kaspersky or Firestrust Sitehound running. Make sure all of your updates are installed correctly and you should have a medium level of protection that would be more that sufficent for a Family PC, you know, nothing risky like Limewire or various adult themed sites
All that was said for this, Trend Micro OS_Protection BETA scanns and fixes before Windows starts, to get those pesky pieces that wont leave while Windows is running.
