Than you for this. I used the msconfig option to uncheck the loading at start up. However when I reboot it seems to reset to load at start up. I have also used the startup option in CCleaner to do this with the same result. Is there any way it can be turned off only to load when requested ?

thanks Confused

I assume you are referring to this MSN Messenger?

http://get.live.com/messenger/overview

  • Open MSN Messenger.
  • Click on Tools > Options.
  • Click on Sign In on the left.
  • Untick Automatically run Windows Live Messenger when I log on to Windows box.
  • Click OK to apply the settings.

If you are referring to the one that comes installed with Windows (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/windowsmessenger/default.mspx), here's how to disable it:

  • Open Windows Messenger.
  • Click on Tools > Options.
  • Select the Preferences tab.
  • Untick Run Windows Messenger when Windows starts box.
  • Click OK to apply the settings.
