I can download the latest Windows Defender Registry Update but, when I try to install it, the PC freezes. The Microsoft Help pages don't solve the problem.

What versions of Windows Defender, Engine, and Definitions do you have?
Can you update from within WD (click on the ▼ sign next to Tools, then select 'Check for Updates')?

Reinstalling AVG solved this problem and also that of the PC freezing.
