Windows Xp will startup as normal, I get as far as the loading Welcome Screen before the blue screen pops up stating:
| Quote: | STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down. |
I get the same message when trying to get into Safe Mode, so that's not possible either. I have also tried selecting the "Last Known Good Configuration" and it does nothing. The same blue screen pops up everytime.
I am running an XPS Dimension Gen 2. It has 256 MB of Ram , it previously had 512MB, however, using the lights, we found out that one stick of Ram was bad. Now, lights A, B, C & D are green, which the online Dell manual states that it means all is running normally, but obviously that isn't so true.
This is a friend's computer, I'm attempting to fix it for them, they do not have any of the Windows XP cds, so that is not an option.
Any advice would be wonderful, I would hate to not be able to do anything for them, but I understand.
Thank you.

That's what I was afraid of needing. Hopefully they will either be able to find the discs, or just purchase one.
Thank you.

your own Windows XP CD should be able to work, as long as it is the same SP level as what they have installed... _________________ <img src="http://www.castlecops.com/zx/johnlgalt/johnlgalt%20sig.png">

Thank you. Unfortunately, I have 2 Vista Computers and 1 XP that was bought through friends so no CDs available.
But, I have found a CD called "Dell Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition SP2 Reinstallation CD 2006" on Amazon.Com, would this work? The computer does have SP2 installed, and it's a Dell.
