|
|
Hi,
I recently formatted my computer, and having issues with Windows Update. As soon as I managed to install all of the updates, everything was going well. Now, I am using Firefox v3, and whenever I download something off a website onto my desktop, it won't appear unless I refresh. It shows up in the actual desktop folder but it wont appear on the main desktop itself where the wallpaper is. Yes everything is pointing to the desktop when I download it, and I didn't have this issue before I formatted. It's just annoying that I have to refresh the computer every time I want to see something on my desktop, thank you. It also has a lag spike when I refresh as well. Thanks.

Boot into safe mode and see if you have the same problems with the desktop not autorefreshing. You won't be able to download but you should be able to copy, paste, etc.

Hi k027,
The desktop does autorefresh, and it turns out that it's Firefox that doesn't show recently downloaded items. Internet explorer does, I tested this by downloading HijackThis in both browsers. Can you help me figure out what the problem is with firefox please?

Create a new Firefox profile (don't delete your old one and don't install any extensions or themes) and then try downloading with the new profile.

Sometime corrupt/very large downloads.rdf files can cause problems. In your old profile, change the name of "downloads.rdf" to "downloadsOLD.rdf" or something similar. Firefox should recreate that file when you use the old profile.
If that doesn't identify the problem, try using the old profile in Firefox Safe Mode:

i removed downloads.sqlite and im guessing it regenerated a non-corrupt copy. Thanks for the help. It seemed so obvious.
