I just up dated from 6.0 to 6.2 and even though I have "minimize MW Pro on startup" checked under general options it will not minimize to the system tray on startup like it should. Ver 6.0 did not have this prob and minimized fine. Any one have a fix for this?

At first I thought I had a problem with Windows when this happened, and then a friend upgraded to v6.2. The same happened to him so we can safely say they have introduced a bug into v6.2.
Can't wait for v6.3!!

This forum is so fouled up right now you might want to try e-mail for your support... support at firetrust.com since they don't have 387 seconds to sit waiting for this topic to finally open.
I follow these forums on a spare computer that has nothing better to do than wait for new posts to finally open. _________________ Questions? Try the wiki

I follow these forums on a spare computer that has nothing better to do than wait for new posts to finally open. | I followed your advice Stan and this is what I received for my efforts...
----------------------------
If you are running MaiLWasher Pro 6.2, please try this:
From your desktop, click on Start >> click All programs >> Startup >> Right click on the MailWasher's shortcut and select 'Delete'
Restart your computer
** You'll need to create a Backup:
Find the MW's data directory by opening an explorer window and searching for a file named BlackList.txt. Depending on your operating system, the directory will be named something like C:\windows\application data\Mailwasherpro\ or C:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\MailwasherPro\
copy:
- Blacklist.txt (also contains Friends list)
- Filters.txt
to CD or Pen Driver, Flash Memory, etc
Please Close MailWasher (MW). If MW is running in the services but does not load up, press CTRL-ALT-DELETE (at the Same time and only once) >> click on processes >> click on Mailwasher.exe and click on 'end process'
Right click on your MailWasher shortcut (on your desktop) >> go to Properties >> click on shortcut tab >> add a space and the word "-restore" (without the quotation marks) to the end of the target so it reads something like:
"C:\Program Files\MailWasher\MailWasher.exe" -restore
Notes:
1. Make sure you place the double quote marks exactly where they are shown in the example.
2. Make sure you insert a space before the -restore
Click OK
When you restart MailWasher, you can expect to lose your accounts, your registration key and any settings you have altered. However, your blacklist/friends List and your filters will be retained.
Then once you have started MailWasher, go back to the shortcut you altered, and remove the "-restore"
Now you will need to add your accounts back in again.
NOTE: Windows quite often doesn't leave enough time for programs to update all of their registry settings and files (and MW keeps a LOT of data in files) winding up in things getting lost when you reboot.
As you might guess from the above information - it's pretty important to shut MW down BEFORE you shut down windows. Forgetting to do so can sometimes result in lost/corrupted data.
** To reinsert your files:
Go to MailWasher >> Help >> About >> then click on the link below the "Enable extended ...". Doing so will open up an explorer window in MW's data directory >> ***important *** Leave the folder open and close Mailwasher Pro, (very important, or your changes will not be saved) >> copy Blacklist.txt and Filters.txt from your Pen Driver(Flash Memory)/CD to the MW's data directory >> restart MailWasher >> Blacklist/Friends/Filters will be restored
Best regards,
Victor

I also received this information from Support, but I'm hesitant to try it since it doesn't seem to address our startup problems logically? Seems to say everyones' MW is corrupt, when maybe they should be issuing a patch to correct the new version problems? Has anyone else tryed these steps with success?

There is nothing in that reply that addresses the problem concerned and I told him that. He has yet to respond.

I got another suggestion from Support (see below). This didn't work either, and caused me to get a "No Connection" issue on startup. So, enough of this aggravation! I just re-installed 6.1 and it's working fine.
Here you have another solution:
1.- From your desktop, click on Start >> click All programs >> Startup >> Right click on the MailWasher's shortcut and select 'Delete'
Restart your computer
If MW is running in the services but does not load up, press CTRL-ALT-DELETE (at the Same time and only once) >> click on processes >> click on Mailwasher.exe and click on 'end process'
2.- From your desktop, Click on Start >> Run >> type in "regedit" (without the quotation marks)
Find this "registry key" by clicking on the [+] in the left hand panel to expand the tree.
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\FireTrust\MailWasher Pro\prefs\Accounts"
3.- Click File >> Export >> click "Selected Branch" and save this to disc (I suggest you to save this file on your desktop i.e. ACCOUNTS.REG )
4.- One more time, find this "registry key"
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\FireTrust\MailWasher Pro"
Click on the word "MailWasher Pro" in the left window so it is highlighted >> then go to the "Edit" menu at the top >> and click "Delete".
Close regedit.
5.- Try reinstalling MailWasher Pro
6.- Close MailWasher Pro (Go to File >> exit)
7.- double click on "accounts.reg" file (on your desktop) and click Yes
8.- Now you will need to enter your registration key again.

I got the following mail from Firetrust Support this morning:

I don't have the right answer for this problem, so I will have to report it to our manager and we have to wait until tomorrow for his answer

Note the date and time stamp. They live in the future compared to us here in Europe, not to mention the timezone difference between them and the USA.

Reply received:
| Quote: | Yes, this is actually a bug in this version and there are a few other customers with the same problem. It seems there is still some work to do for our developer. I guess all the testing in the world doesn't quite prepare us for all the different configs people have.
Unfortunately you will need to wait until the new version is available.
Our developer is working on a fix for that.
I suggest you to reinstall MailWasher Pro 6.1
1.- Close MailWasher Pro (Go to MailWasher Pro >> click on File >> Exit)
If you still get a message that Mailwasher Pro is running, please try pressing, Ctrl+Alt+M, and see if it pops up.
If not, please press, Ctrl+Alt+Delete to open the Windows Task Manager. Click the "Processes" tab, click "Mailwasher.exe" and click "End Process" (Win 2000/XP/Vista only).
2.- click the following link http://www.firetrust.com/download/MailWasher_Pro_6_1.exe
3.- Once the dialog box appears, save file to your computer.
4.- Open the downloaded file to run the installer
5.- Once the file is opened the setup dialog box will appear, follow the setup wizard to guide you through the rest of the installation
MWP 6.1 will load on top of MWP 6.2, so there is no need to delete your current version of MailWasher Pro first, although ensure you have closed your current version down before installing the update.
All your settings, registration, blacklist etc will be retained.
** If you have a firewall installed, remember that MailWasher Pro will require internet access.
Best regards,
Victor

Afterwards, I told him that the only version that had been thoroughly stable for me had been v5.3 and he suggested reinstalling that instead. I don't know about other users here but I find that v6.1 and v6.2 tend to crash a lot and have problems closing the connection from time to time.

There certainly are no new program enhancements (apparent to me - and nor was I affected by any of the bugs purportedly corrected in 6.2) to justify having to deal with this startup annoyance.
It is back to version 6.1 for me. I will watch for the announcement of a new version. Keep us posted if anyone hears anything different.
Thanks for "Officially" running this problem through the "follow the script" support agent. Apparently this is the "front end" caliber of support one can expect to receive these days (from just about everbody) .
P.S. - Even limited QA Testing should have revealed this bug/annoyance. Honestly no excuse. Hope no other underpinnings of this program have been tinkered with - and left poorly tested.

Just so they know it's not an isolated incident ...
Ditto on not minimising at startup. _________________ Al

Another user with the same problem (Ver 6.2.1).
Anyone received feedback from Firetrust on when the problem will be resolved ?
Like Elektra noted in earlier post, my last stable MWP was version 5.3
ALL further updates have had most of the problems already noted in the forum.
As I have installed a number of fully paid for MWPs, each update adds to my workload.
Have now stopped recommending MWP to my friends and colleagues.
