|
|
I'm switching from NIS to another internet security package, but I've found the Identity Safe feature handy and have a bunch of unames and passwords stored there. Does anybody know if there's a way to uninstall NIS, or at least stop it from loading lots of junk on startup, and keep the Identity Safe toolbar functioning?
Alternatively, is there another password manager that will be able to import the data from my Identity Safe backup so that I can get NIS out of my system altogether?
Thanks,
Mac

Thanks for your suggestions. It looks like the only way to export data with NIS Identity Save is to create a backup file, and that comes out as an .NPM file, which seems to be something exclusive to Norton.

I've found a way to export the Identity Safe data as a .csv file, so I'm posting it here for anybody who may end up in the same situation. There's a caveat, though: you can only do this after your virus definitions update subscription has run out. As long as your subscription is still vaild, it seems that you have to keep the damn thing on your machine and wait it out. If anybody sees a way around that, I'd be grateful if you could post the solution.
1 Go to the following folder:
C:\program files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\coShared\CIM\2.0
2 Double-click COExport.exe.
This program exports Identity Safe data to a comma delimited file.
3 When you are prompted, provide your Identity Safe password. Click OK.
4 In the Save As dialog box, select a location and filename. Click Save.
5 To display the passwords, go to the location you provided in line 4 and open the file.
