Hi,

I'm new here and thought I knew a little bit about my computer until I looked at this site...I guess I have a lot to learn. Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong area...

I've recently been invaded by some spyware and was trying to take care of it using AdAware. Adaware found quite a bit, but I was still getting pop-ups in places I shouldn't so I ran it again and it found more stuff again...re-installing itself on my computer? Being the computer genuis that I am, I tried to track down the areas that adaware was finding the problems, and see if there was anything suspicious in there that adaware was missing.

Long story short, I either solved the problem or deleted something I shouldn't have. Now when I boot up, I get an error message saying that fash.exe can't run because something has been uninstalled (it's a .dll but the exact name is escaping me).

So my question is two-pronged:

1. What is fash.exe and should I be worried that it's not working?
2. What else can I do to get at this spyware?

Download : HiJack This /zx/phoenix22/hijackthis.zip

Create and Unzip to a folder not your Desktop or the Temp folder, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".


When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log in a text file, and post it in the CCSP "Spyware - Hijack Related" forum:

/f67-Trend_Micro_HijackThis_Logs.html


Most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

I read the message about fash.exe and the missing .dill on this site, I am having the same problem. I followed the reply and downloaded hijackthis and ran the scan. I have saved the log file but don't know what to do next, can you help?
