Beware of ISearch Tool bar. It disables Spybot and makes it look like it works. It also did a number on my Symantec AV.
It also disabled all forums and av/.spyware and update sites by hijacking my hosts file, pointing their urls/addresses to a 127.0.0.x address back to my PC. There were 127 entries.
If you cannot update your AV or spybot. Check your Hosts file for malicious entries. In XP it is located at c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc.
I manually ripped it out of my registry and then reinstalled my spybot and Symantec AV in Safe mode with networking.

Best suggestion by Mjrhzrd. I also had the isearch toolbar, deleted it, but all access to spyware sites were disabled. I deleted the hosts file and now all the anti spyware websites are visible again. I was even able to udate spyware blaster.
Note my hosts file was dated 08 april 2004. For me the problems started then.
Now all ok

Thanks for the advice. I was able to download AdAware latest data file and copied it into the AdAware program file than ran the program. It eliminated ISearch, but I still was not able to go to any of the spyware sites, Lavasoft, etc. I used your advice, and found the Hosts file in the Windows folder and opened it up with Notepad and deleted all the entries that were listed. There were over 120 sites that were blocked by ISearch.
Thanks again for helping delete a malicious hijacking software.
Bob
