I installed Spybot on my grandfather's computer awhile back, and after speaking with him last night, he said he was having some problems with it.

He was browsing one night, and upon arrival to one site, he said it kept telling him that Spybot was blocking the download of some program, but he could not remember which. Anyway, he said it kept doing it over and over, and would not allow him to the website. So, he tried uninstalling Spybot. After that, he tried the website again, but it still kept telling him that Spybot was blocking this download.

So, I told him to go to Add/Remove Programs (he has XP Home) and see if it comes up in the list. He said it did not.

Then, I told him to go to Program Files and look for the folder for Spybot. He found it, so I told him to delete it. He said that it told him that he could not remove it, access denied.

Does anyone know what to do for this? How can he completely remove it, and what can he do to be able to access this site? I don't know what site it was, but I can find out if needed. Thanks in advance.

Hi Randini,

SPYBOT does not prevent access to sites but well from unwanted downloads if the BHO protection was allowed in the "Vaccination" tab.

IMHO your Dad made an uncomplete uninstall.I am not familiar with
XP systems but with a restore point can your Dad go back to the situation
when SPybot was still there?
Otherwise I would redownload Spybot and make a correct uninstall. You should maybe do it for your Dad.

Have a great day

That was my next guess, but I told him I would research it first. I'll give him a call tonight and walk him through it and see what happens, and also get exact details as to what happens and such.

well, im no expert but if it says "access denied" that means that the program is in use so tell your dad to go to his taskmanager (ctrl + alt + del) and click on the processes tab and look for something that says "spybot.exe" or anything to do with spybot. Tell him to right click on it and click on "end process" This will turn it off so he can delete the files from his program files since they wont be in use. Post a repky to let me kno if it works!

I also installed Spybot and later deleted it. However, it now will not let me down load certain programs like Sidestep. I don't know how to get rid of the changes it made to my registry. Does anybody know how to fix this problem ??? Crying or Very sad
