for some reason, i tried to install norton. and it says it can't because a newer version is already installed. says i have to remove it to install.
well it is not listed in programs files. and not listed for uninstall. where and how can i remove it to reinstall it.
i am using win 98 just upgraded from 95 to 98 on a packard bell.

Try looking in "Add/Remove" Programs:

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs

Depends what version of Norton you have. Norton Corporate, which I used to use, is extremely difficult to remove. Go to symantec.com and check the support area. It tells you how to remove the program when Add/Remove doesn't work.

BUT keep in mind this requires going into your registry so make sure to follow instructions on how to backup your registry.

norton is not listed anywhere. not even add remove. but now when i restart. or boot up shows that some file is missing along with this modem file says i may have removed or deleted the file. windowss registry or system ini file refers to this device. and not only this device is listedd. norton is also. shows on there when i boot or restart. latelly have had probblems just shutting down. all it does is restart not shut donw.

this comptuer was win 95 and had recently done upgrade to win 98. have reinstalled 98 but doesn't help the problem.
so i don't know what to do . i need help.
