Re: filters and filters: Fw:FW: Fww: etc etc

This thread raises an interesting question I hadn't even thought of yet.

Assuming that MW is processing the friends list first, then the blacklist, and knowing that filters can "take precedence" over either list, and that a friends list / blacklist match and a filter match can cause a conflict "warning", or the filter can "take precedence", we can jump to the conclusion that there is an internal variable at filter time that indicates if the white/black lists have already been matched.

Which suggests three new possibilities in the filter definition:

(_) Apply to friends only (excludes blacklisted)
(_) Apply to blacklist only (excludes friends)
(_) Apply to ALL messages (default)

I'm thinking specifically of "friends" who forward messages with links to web pages (even more specifically, news stories) from sources I already subscribe to myself. More specifically, (example only) assume I already get "Today's Headlines" from nytimes.com, so I want to "ignore" forwards from friends with links to /www(dot)nytimes(dot)com/.

Or, maybe I want to accept replies or certain subjects from any address that are normally "blacklisted" such as an acknowledgement of an unsubscribe request (for my records), or a "confirm subscription" message from any previously blacklisted address - which would tell me that someone else is signing me up for lists without my knowledge.

This is the same situation I ask about a few days ago. It would be great to beable to filter out the crap forwarded emails we receive from friends. I can't even get it to mark for deletion by putting in the filters: Fwd: FW: Fw: etc., had a reply from MW, sent them a jpeg of my settings this morning and waiting for their answer to this problem. Also suggested that filtered email be deleted just like blacklisted emails at the provider. From: Bonners Ferry, Idaho

A follow up to the problem I have trying to filter forward junk mail from friends. I have tried everyone's suggestions including MW tech's and nothing appears to stop the FW:Fwd: etc, etc from getting through. We all have friends I am sure that insist on sending forwarded mail that was forwarded to them. I would love a solution to this problem short of blacklisting the friend.
