|
|
I too am beginning to have my doubts that mailwasher make any difference whatsoever, but let's presume it does and concentrate for a minute on the user interface.
a) I notice that there are a lot of emails on my blacklist from a common domain.
b) I edit one email address, wildcarding it thus: *@rubbish.net
c) the listbox then scrolls to the bottom to insert the edited name.
Now, I have to scroll back up the list to find the other email addresses to delete them.
Suggestion one:
Remember where the listbox was before it scrolled to the bottom, and position it back there. Don't try to fight the control, let it do it's thing then reset it to where you want
Suggestion two: (a real brain buster!)
If I add a wildcard to the blacklist why not automatically delete any blacklists that match the wildcard!

Additional: could it possible to set the asterix(*) as default setting if choosing the Edit Function within "ad address to list"
Say like e span mail comming from sexygirls@yoursexsite.com be edditing the Blacklist throug the button Wildcard expression the result would automaticly be *@yoursexsite.com? possible?

What I would like to see is a domain threshold setting, defaulting to 5 or so, that prompts you wether or not you'd like to convert the blacklisted email addresses that share a common domain into a wildcard address (and let you control the wildcard, prefilling to one of the email addresses the wildcard would replace), but it would have to remember the ones you say no to. Lots of spam comes from, for example (prob faked) yahoo, but I don't want a wildcard on them because I get legit emails as well.
It doesn't have to check for duplicates every time the blacklist is updated, but perhaps on startup, or when you select an option from the menu?
When this happens, you'll have another registered user, and I'll start spreading the word about this more actively. As it is, this is a great program, but I have to do a lot of work myself that the program itself could do for it to actually delete spam instead of just collecting spammers' email addresses.

How about a 'hotkey' for domain blacklisting, i.e. the "<shift> -"? That would make blacklisting a 'domain' much easier.
Great program, but I think the spammers are figuring out ways around it. I'm starting to get spam with no return path, so it won't 'bounce'. Is there a way to read the source address or domain routing, and block that?

I agree with the the above posts. Mailwasher should have an option that would go through the blacklist and automatically suggest domains to blacklist (for instance domains that appear in several blacklisted addresses). Then you could toggle the domains you want to blacklist.
It would als be very nice for the blacklist to clean itself of redundant individual addresses that are also included in a wildcard domain blacklisted address.
Thanks for a great product!

You DO NOT want to do that!
If you do that, the next time you have that blacklisted email it may need to be handled by you (if there is a conflicting "WhiteList Wildcard")!

How about "*@*oursexsit*.*" More coverage for your wildcard (without being dangerously vague! That's MY "manual solution! Why just get ONE domain when you might be able to "ZAP" 5 or 20 ??? !!!
But ... to answer your inquiry (if I understand it correctly), I believe you want a function that is already present! Just right-click and select "blacklist entire domain" !! If you then look in your blacklist, you'll see that your entry is in the format of " *@IamSPAM.com ".
Antyrg:
Use your "Friend's List! If you KNOW your friendly email addresses (and there are NONE that are unknown) and you to want get their email, put them in the friend's list, then Blacklist the domain! The COMPLETE EMAIL ADDRESSES will always override a "Wildcard" (ie. a blacklisted domain !
ALSO, you can sort the blacklist by domain and it only takes a few minutes (depending on how large your list is!

How about:
" *.sexybabe.com " Is there any doubt in your mind what kind of website that is going to be?
here's a partial list of domains that don't even TRY to hide their purpose!:
[Blacklisted emails]
*@*adultmagazine*.* *@*adultpictureshow*.* *@*adultsonly4u*.* *@*allnudewomen4u*.* *@*amazingdud*.* *@*automatic-porn*.* *@*cheat-on-my-husband*.* *@*come-n-get-me*.* *@*cum-get-sum-porn*.* *@*cumshot*.* *@*cumtarget*.* *@*dontbeapornhater*.* *@*easy-girlz*.* *@*favoritefxxksit*.* *@*get-laid-online*.* *@*get-your-porn-o*.* *@*get-your-xxx-on*.*
Give me a break ... These 17 represent LESS THan 1% of the DOMAINS in my Blacklist (domain "wildcards") _________________ Whirlwind ... W-H-O-O-S-H

If I decide to add *@rubbish.net to the blacklist and I already have complete@rubbish.net and utter@rubbish.net on the blacklist, surely these two individual entries can be automatically deleted by the program, without breaking any rules of logic?
Or is there some special treatment of wildcards going on that I don't understand?

Just scanned this forum for the first time today to post the suggestiopn that you guys have already proposed :::
POSITION THE FILTER LIST AT THE POINT WHERE I EDITED AN ENTRY, NOT WHERE THE WILDCARD WAS INSERTED.
(caps for benefit of Firetust monitors)
This is the single biggest bugbear with what is otherwise a brilliant product. It is a really big timewaster . . .I mean an anger-making 'feature'.
PERMIT RIGHT-CLICK ON A FILTER LIST ENTRY TO PROVIDE POP_UP OPTIONS LIKE 'Blacklist domain'
and . . .

Nope. Your request is valid.
Just that you should be careful not to use it with domains like aol.com etc.
Thanks all,
Dan Carey
