From Prince_Serendip:

You can find the info window by clicking on "Help" on the top toolbar (above the Help Icon) in the main Antivir program and then on "About Antivir."

In the Options/Configuration window, click on "Report." Under "Data to be logged" (right side) include "Include all paths." After running a full scan with Antivir, it will save your log file with Wordpad. Any files with warnings will have their full paths. Just copy and paste to your post.

Current AVPE Update!

What makes AVPE more than other AV programs is that it has strong antitrojan, anti-dialer, anti-backdoor and anti-hijacker capabilities with advanced heuristics and macro support! It is like having a full AV and AT combined in one program. (AV=antivirus program; AT=antitrojan application)

Howdy,

Is anyone having problems with the heuristics giving "False Positives" ?

eg. "Heuristic/..." or "DIAL/Generic"

If so, do an online scan before deleting the file and please check back here with more info. If the file looks buggy it needs to be sent in so that it can be checked by the people at H&BEDV.

To assist the programmers at H&BEDV to help us users please read the following:

Quote:

From www.free-av.com

New viruses and suspect files

Any viruses which cannot yet be detected or removed by the AntiVir Personal Edition or which appear suspect should be packed (WinZIP, PKZip, Arj etc.) and emailed as an attachment to virus@free-av.com. Since some email gateways use antivirus software, you should also give the file a password to prevent them from being unpacked without warning (please don’t forget to tell us the password in your email!).

Before sending the suspected new virus/file, please confirm with an online scan of your choosing.

For the newbies: on Windows ME and up with WinZip/zip utility installed,

Encrypting and Decrypting Compressed Folders

You can use either of the following procedures to encrypt a compressed folder or file:

- Right-click the compressed folder or file, and then click Encrypt.
- Double-click the compressed folder or file, and then click Encrypt on the File menu.

You can use either of the following procedures to decrypt a compressed folder or file:

- Right-click the compressed folder or file, and then click Decrypt.
- Double-click the compressed folder or file, and then click Decrypt on the File menu.

When you open an encrypted folder, you receive a dialog box prompting you for the password. The password is stored in the .zip archive. If you forget the password, there is no way to retrieve it. If you do not enter a password in the Extract Wizard, you will not be prompted for a password when you open a compressed folder or file.

**On Win98se and below you will need a zip utility and an encryption application.

When you download Antivir Personal Edition from the Computer Cops Downloads page, do not open it straight away but save it to your machine. Then you can open the file using WinZip or another unzipping utility.

If you try to open it without saving it using WinZip you will end up with a modified .tar file that you will not be able to use because your Windows Operating System will not recognize it.

Download from this link: Category: Main: Antivirus Tools
(Antivir is at the top of the first page.)

Best regards

Forum Netiquette 101

You can post one and only one new topic thread for each different subject. Multiple posts of new topics on the same subject by the same person is not allowed.

The one who started the topic is the one who is being helped, often called the OP (Original Poster). Please do not "tag" your similar problem on to another person's topic. Please start your own "New Topic."

If you see that an acknowledged expert and Staff member is already helping in a topic, then they are the primary helper. Please do not try to add your help in the thread unless invited to do so. It only serves to confuse the OP.

When you post a "New Topic," please include your operating system and what programs, with their version numbers and year of issue, are involved.

Thank you

Here are handy tutorials from CastleCops, BleepingComputer and other sites which will help you learn how to do many of the functions for all Windows platforms. We may ask you, for example, to Show Hidden Files or to do something in Safemode? Here are clear instructions for you.

1. How to start Windows in Safe Mode: All Platforms

2. How to Show Hidden Files in Windows: All Platforms

3. Removing Programs from the Add/Remove Programs List

4. Managing your Internet Explorer Temporary Internet Files or
Safely Delete the Temporary Internet Files or use CrapCleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com/

5. How to Format a Floppy in Windows

6. Deleting Temp Files 101 or use CrapCleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com/

7. Disabling System Restore in WinME/XP

8. Safe Internet Explorer Settings

9. Make sure you have ALL the Windows Critical Security Updates. Go to the Microsoft Windows Update, scan and apply all patches recommended for your system and IE. This is essential to fixing and preventing security problems on your machines.

10. Free online antivirus scanners:

Panda Active Scan

RAV Antivirus Online Scan

eTrust AV web scanner (Computer Associates)

HouseCall Free Online Virus Scanner

Note: Be sure to disable any resident AV scanners before using these as it can cause conflicts and errors.

11. Using System File Checker:

For Windows XP

For Windows 98, 98se and ME

System File Checker watches over critical system files; if any are moved, overwritten or deleted, lets you restore them from the CD. Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Information->Tools menu or WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SFC.EXE

Howdy,

Win95 users - beware AVPE is no longer being supported. No new programs/vdf updates. Sorry! Look in the DL section at Avast or AVG, I am not sure if they are supporting 95 or not.

I have made my opinion of the unannouced dropping known to H&BEDV in words that I will not write here. Now my Honeypot machine is really and truely an unprotected machine that will dropped from my network.
