I had CWShredder v. 1.57 on my computer and it ran fine. No problems with it.
Then I downloaded CWShredder v.1.59.
When I open CWShredder v. 1.59, I get this message:
"You have a variant of the CoolSearch Trojan (CWS.Smartsearch.2) that has attemped to close cwshredder. To counter this cwshredder is now starting with a random string of text in the title bar. cwshredder is still functioning fine, it has not been corrupted. If you feel you should not be getting this error and you are not infected, restart cwshredder and this warning should not appear again."
I close it and run it again and it hangs at CWS:bootconf. I let it run for 10 minutes on cws:bootconf, and then looked at the Task Manager. CWShredder was using 97-99% CPU, so I cancelled the program.
Next, I downloaded CoolWWWSearch.SmartSearchKiller, and ran that. It reported that I did not have CoolWWWSmartSearch on my system.
Then I ran CWShredder v 1.59 and get the same message as above. I close it and run it again and I get the same hang up on CWS:bootconf and Task Manager report 96-98% CPU.
I read the FAQ at http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/faq.html#cwshredder5 and that is no help.
It says that if Services.exe is 100% cpu it is caused by the large S&D Hosts file; however, on my computer, the Services.exe is 0% CPU and CWShredder CPU is 97-99% .
Just in case it *may* be the Hosts, I tried removing the S&D hosts file, rebooting and running CWShredder 1.59 again, and the same thing happens.
Is this one of the bugs in this 1.59 version?
My previous version, 1.57 ran fine with no problems.
Before I ran CWShredder I ran Spybot 1.3, Ad-Aware (full scan),
and have SpywareGuard and SpywareBlaster and Norton Anti-virus.
I tried disabling spywareGuard and SpywareBlaster, still the same error message and lockup.
