I was wondering how pop-ups launch without a browser window open? I have run Ad-aware and Spy Bot and this is still happening. What process is launching these things?

Thanks

Vinny

programs called spyware install themselves on your computer without asking, and can produce these popups on your computer.

we can get rid of them from your computer though Smile

firstly, i need to know if everytime a popup comes up, it says 'windows messenger service' at the top, or not.

if it does, dont do the following and let me know.

if it DOESNT, do the following:

Go to and download : HijackThis located at http://www.norbiesworld.co.uk/downloads/hijackthis.exe

Choose to save it, rather than open it, and save in a place such as my documents, but NOT your Desktop or the Temp folder.

Doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, then copy and paste the contents of your Hijack This log back here, and i'll tell you what to do.

Good Luck! Smile

norbie,
I posted my log file for HijackThis in the Privacy Area of this forum under Spyware-HijackThis. I can post it here also if you wish, but I know that the administration frowns on posting the same topic/problem twice.
It is the only post under VinnyWolf.

Thanks for the quick response,

Vinny
