Hi GG...
I am awaiting some figures from Firetrust as to spam portal performance, who themselves require info from developers maintaining the systems involved, though suffice to say it all seems to be going extremely well and no complaints so far.
Furthermore, aside from the CC forum that has no-doubt pre-empted the questions of others, the early furore of confusion and questions has dropped back to a mere trickle. I'll therefore settle on the "No news is good news" principle for the interim and grab a bit more sleep while I can !
I'll post up the figures as soon as I receive them myself.
Thanks,
Brendan. _________________ _________________

Sorry... I meant to add that I have also opened up another webhost account and URL for the purpose of various related tests and investigations.
I am also particularly keen to test the effect of catchall-type spam-sinks which should offer the easiest and most effective means for paticipation of web-hosted sites (etc), and I'll also be generating a site front-page which will contain some additional spam-sinks buried in it.
As an investigative measure I also registered one of the spam-sink addresses with a dodgy-looking website claiming to be running a "Do Not Spam" list. It's just gotta' be genuine and very effective...
Hahahahahaha !!!

You run your own mail server don't you Pieter? Can't you just look at the stats for each account using server-side utilities?

I just rent one.. Although I can create a lot of pop boxes, aliasses I can't actualy monitor them when I forward a pop box to spamforce... |
Ah OK. Like you I'd sure like to know what sort of SPAM bait I'm setting. As it stands I don't know if I'm getting nary a nibble or if they're taking my bait hook, line, and sinker!

To help you monitor your spam-sinks, I intend to set up accounts on the "experimental" server, where the Email addresses will simply be <your-portal-address-string>@fastwire.co.uk, using the same portal address string as the access password.
All that you would then need to do is change <your-portal-address-string>@<your-portal-URL> to <your-portal-address-string>@fastwire.co.uk which will both forward spam directly to your original portal address and copy to a collection account which will be <your-portal-address-string>collect@fastwire.co.uk.
For example...
Let's say you have a portal address 12345678@xyz.com.
To both report and review your spam...
Change your spam-sink forwarding to 12345678@fastwire.co.uk.
Set your Email client to the following collection address...
Mail Server POP3 and SMTP addresses = mail.fastwire.co.uk
Account name = 12345678collect@fastwire.co.uk
Account password = 12345678
I've already set up two accounts for Ikeb and Ggsearch, so maybe you could try them and let me know how you get on. Furthermore, as your spam- forwarding address (e.g. 12345678@fastwire.co.uk) is different from your collection address (e.g. 12345678collect@fastwire.co.uk), you can safely test your mail setup and send/collect any test messages to/from 12345678collect@fastwire.co.uk without fear of them going off to the portal.
Each account currently has a 10Mb allocation, though should you no longer intend to periodically flush them then just let me know, and you should then change your spam-forwarding back to your original portal address to avoid your collection accounts unnecessarily going over quota.
Please let me know if you have any problems and I'll sort them out later today.
Have fun
Brendan. _________________ _________________
