yesicanread!
Hi, and nice to meet you...
LOVE
This is a very sweet post...and I would have to say the Light that you speak of comes from Loving our Father...and our brothers and sisters on this planet.
I have found that once you truly seek...you do find...and understand.
Here's a few quotes for you...
Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
Romans 13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
1John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
1John 4:12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. _________________

I hung on to that link for months, undecided whether to use it. In the end, it was just too good not to use. Remedial Atheism anyone?
b11ng00...(how do you pronounce that, or is it pronounce-able?) I think we are born with an insatiable curiosity to seek anwers to the things we can percieve but perhaps not immediately understand (of course, there are things we'll probably never understand) Perhaps this is part of our basic survival programming (of whatever source...genetic, ancestral/racial). For the majority of people, the search takes a spirtual path. I believe, for these people, that the journey's end is more important than the path taken. This is not to say that the path is unimportant. After all, the path brings you to the destination. While there may be a few different paths, I would think the choice would be narrow.
For those of us of a secular humanist/atheist bent, the journey is all.
Religious/spiritual people seek the "light" at the end of the tunnel.
Atheists seek to light up the tunnel.

peace...(let's purge the violence from the bible/quran and rid the world of the religious examples/excuses for war. There is no such thing as "holy war". All war is unholy, whether justified or not. There can not possibly be a "God" that would condone war. This has to be a self cancelling concept. _________________ If evolution is outlawed, only outlaws will evolve

Hey Zippy...nice to see you too!!! Hope you had a nice visit at your folks anniversary get-to-gether!

Oh yes...and they still do...You will also notice there are numerous times that Christ says "woe to you scribes and pharisees"...
| Quote: | So Light was shaded in their teachings. Jesus was light, but was shaded by these people. So when you speak, you credit the Light, or shade the light.
|
I would say that they were filled with darkness...so they couldn't be vessels for the Light. If you have Christ in you, His Light will shine thru you...and His Words, are a Lamp unto my feet...
| Quote: | | So. I'm asking. What shades or unshades the light ? What gives credit to religion ? What gives the Light purpose ? |
I can only comment on the first question in this quote...and I would say if you love God, and His children, and do His Will, the light in you will shine forth...but if you are a faker...(call yourself a Christian or whatever) there is no light to shine thru...
Hi Ek!

Interesting that you should say that, because just the other day I was thinking it isn't my place in Heaven that I am so concerned with today, but my daily effectiveness, in my dealings with the people that are in my life, both intimately, and those just passing by. I guess I am of the mindset to live one day at a time, and hopefully be a blessing to those I come in contact with, rather than a pain in the arse to them. In a way I too would prefer the "light" the tunnel...rather than darken it... _________________

You are absolutely right Chickengirl. I know some Christians that are preoccupied with the "light at the end of the tunnel" but for me, it is just the promise not my daily goal. If I live the life now and try to be filled with light, so to speak, the end of the tunnel will take care of itself.

Light. The light of this world is Jesus Christ, and the light of this world shines from each of us who believes in God through the Holy Spirit. The ONLY light of this world comes from Christ who lives in us. Not from the things of this world, IE: music, movies, poetry. Those are all man made things that people use to distract themselves. When it comes right down to it, God is the only thing valuable in this world, and the only way to get to the Father is through the Son and Holy Spirit.
It says in the bible, John 8:12 "Jesus said to the people, "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't be stumbling through the darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life."
1 John 1:5 "This is the message he has given us to announce to you: God is light and there is no darkness in him at all. So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness. We are not living in the truth. But if we are living in the light of God's presence, just as Christ is, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from every sin."
No where in the bible does it state that there is light in anything of this world. This world is dark and wicked, only the light of Jesus the Son of God, and God Himself shines through the dark and empty pit we call earth.
