|

Hi,
Could i submit my personal review of the Ewido Free Trojan Scanner program?
Because i used it on my Dual-Boot computer system of C:\Windows 98SE and D:\Windows XP Home Sr1.
And since they did the update, so that the users could have the full product for 14 days.
It has never worked again on my XP partition.
I keep getting the following problems with this program:
Mainly, because i can no longer get the program to run, the Scan buttons on the Scanner page have now been 'greyed out'.
Any downloads i do for the program, are actually downloaded, but somehow they never seem to appear in the Signatures folder.
I keep getting a pop-up box on screen when i run the program, all i get is the following:
'Database could not be found. Please run an online update to get the latest signatures'.
The Taskbar part of the program that monitored in the background crippled my computer.
And even deleting the Ewido program, did not get my computer back (XP Home).
I was lucky, that i had made a Restore point before installing the Ewido program.
I did a re-install again of it again a few days later, to see if the basic program i had originally would work, but still it would not accept the updates. I have been in contact with the makers, and sent all of my log files, a Word document, a list of my software and even my Startup lists for XP Home. And i did get an e-mail back from them saying that they are trying to 'replicate' the problem.
But, so far i have had no further contact with them about this problem.
So i think it is a case of wait and see...
This is the main download page for the program:
http://www.ewido.net/en/?section=download
One thing that i have noticed about the program download now is, that they have combined both the Free and the Plus versions in the same product. So if anyone buys this program, i feel very sorry for them, because they could end up with the same problems i am having.
I am just happy that i first tried the Free version, not the 'Paid For' program.
Software installed on my computer.
Ad-Aware SE Personal - Reference Number - SE1R2 10.08.2004
(I did have Ad-Aware 6.0 installed, but i upgraded to the SE program above)

I heard from many experts that two antivirus programs loading at startup is not a good idea as it can cause conflicts. Do you have both AV, Norton and AVG, programs running at startup?

Hi iguanilla,
I can confirm that i don't have two Anti-Virus programs running on my computer.
I have learnt that lesson fron past actions, the Norton product is just running the Firewall only.
To update the list below, to my current settings and what i have running:
Ad-Aware SE Personal - Reference Number - SE1.04
ID-Blaster - v2.0
SpywareBlaster - v3.2 - latest updates installed
Norton Internet Security 2002 - latest updates installed
(Firewall only, no Anti-Virus)
SpyBot Search & Destroy 1.3 - Latest update
SpywareGuard - v2.20
Pop-Up Stopper Free Edition – 3.1.1012
Avast Anti-Virus program - latest update installed.
(I switched from AVG, to test Avast out to see what it is like).
a2 Anti-Trojan - Latest updates installed
All of this is running on both partitions on my computer.
C:\ Windows 98SE (Fat32)
D:\ Windows XP Home SR1 (NTFS to stop cross linking programs)
Regarding the review, i am waiting to see if Ewido sort out their problems with the program.
Before i try it again on my computer, with the same software installed as above, and i am waiting for a reply to some questions that i have asked on the other forum.
As well as some Personal Messages that i have sent about the problems that i had.
Because i think that if it will run on my computer (XP) as above, it will run on anyone's.
This is before i make a Ghost backup of my computer, virus check it, scan it for spyware, defrag it, scandisk it and then install the Windows XP SP2.
That is when i come back to this forum...
And ask "Why is it not working"?

Hi to all,
Firstly, sorry for not getting back on how my computer was getting on with Ewido.
I was under the impression that the update or fix had not yet been released, because of some of the other posts on another forum.
I have re-downloaded the Ewido program again.
Stopped all programs that were open in the bottom taskbar, and installed the program again. (Background Guard disabled)
Rebooted, and Ewido worked and it asked about getting an update.
I updated the program, and i was then able to to scan my computer.
It seems to me that the Ewido program now works on my machine.
And it even found a cookie on my computer, that the other software missed.
Also my computer software specs have changed a little:
Windows XP Home SR2 update installed
Avast Anti-Virus installed (instead of AVG)
This is the scan result for my XP partition:
Disk size - 19.5GB
Used space - 8.81GB
Free space - 10.7GB

I have the full version of Ewido and it works perfectly. Nortons butts heads with a lot of other security programs. You might try getting rid of Nortons and trying Ewido again.
