Hi,
I recently had malware problems with my desktop that resulted in my IE being hijacked (connected by adsl cable to a netgear wireless gateway). I solved the problems (which included deleting a lot of keys) and was given advice on how to upgrade my security to stop future problems with my IE being hijacked. I upgraded my laptop (which is connected to the gateway via a wireless LAN PCMCIA card) - which included installing a number of programmes including Spywareblaster.
Unfortunately on reboot - my laptop is no longer connecting to the wireless lan. I tried IPCONFIG and was given the message that the Media is Disconnected. The Tx/Rx light continues to flicker but the Link light on the PCMCIA card no longer works.
Does anyone have suggestions on what I can do?
Thanks,
Rob

It would not seem from your description that anything that occured on the desktop has any bearing on this so concentrate on any changes that you made to the Netgear or the laptop.
Did you install a firewall on the laptop also? If so, try disabling it as a test to see if it is causing the problem. If it is then its settings can be adjusted to allow the connection while still affording protection. _________________

Hi,
The laptop did have Firewall enabled - but when I clicked off this box it made no difference (I did reboot). I did not do anything with the Netgear set-up (famous last words). To be honest, I don't even remember how I set up the whole Netgear system
You couldn't think of anything else at all? I am particularly confused about the IPCONFIG stating that the internet adaptor wireless network connection and LAN connection are both Media Disabled? Since there are still lights on the PCMCIA card flashing, doesn't this mean that there is no signal coming from the Netgear? When I click on the wifi link in the toolbar - it shows that here are no available wireless networks.
Thanks.

Hi Rob,
Where are you seeing the transmit and recieve (TX/RX) on the router or on the PC card?
Is TCP/IP setup for DHCP or are you using a static address on the computer?
You might check the "Device Manager" for the interface card and make sure that it isn't disabled.
