Posted: Fri Aug 27, 2004 7:41 pm Post subject: Phony Dialer - Help! |
|
|
I am having serious problems with a phony dialer that pops up within seconds of booting up and it attempts to connect.
It appears to be a pawn dialer and the phone # looks to be a european # staring with 011....
I can cancel the connect to, but it just keeps reappearing and dialing over and over without stopping.
If I am even able to get my own good internet connection, this phony dialer disconnects that good connection, and begins attempting the bad connections. Then I am not able to reconnect with the good connection because the modem is always in use.
Any suggestions to get rid of this phony dialer? Thanks!

Greetings,
JimmyG99
Welcome!
What OS do you have? Do you have any anti-virus/spyware/trojan packages? Firewall?
What's the name of the dialler?
Kindest regards,
Dragan Glas

Greetings,
First of all, have a look at your Desktop icons and system tray to see if there are any new ones which look suspicious.
When you open a IE window and connect to the inernet, open the Task Manager (CTRL + ALT + DEL) - check to see what Applications are running.
If there's nothing suspicious there, click on the Processes tab, click on the "CPU" column heading (this will sort the processes by the amount of processor time they are taking, percentage-wise).
One of the processes which is taking up most of the time will be the dialler.
In all cases, make a note of the name(s) of any suspicious icons/programs/processes which you can see and tell us what they are.
Kindest regards,
Dragan Glas
