|
My mother just bought a used compaq presario with XP PRO. She was online at first just fine. One day she got her numlock on, and being her first pc she didn't know what happen. She called my husband and my husband did'nt know that the numlock on a lap operated differently to unlock, so he didn't know what was wrong.
So he had my mother re-install XP PRO. SHe did, but 1/2 thru the load she decided to take the lap offline incase my husband decided to call her for the progress. SHe said she hit something (couldn't remember what) and a screen popped up saying:
UNREGMP2.EXE- entry point not found
Procedure entry poing get IUMS couldn't be located in the dynamic
unk library msdart.dll
After clicking the ok button, the install resumed and finished, but she still can't get online. WHen she used the connection wizard it works fine until she get to the part where it tells her to choose the name you want to use for your connection. Anything she types in there, it says: That name can't be used, try another name. But noting she types there comes up with the same message. It doesn't make since, because it says you can use any name you want, but nothing works.
SHe tried it form her ISP disk, and is says it load succesfully, but she still can't get online. There is not icon for her to even click on, and when looking in the control panel in internet options, there on internet connecton icon, as if she never made a connection set up.
SHe tried re-installing XP pro again, but she got the same message as previous mentions at about 13 min left of down load.
I don't know if this is 2 different problems or one connects to the other. I trying to help her long distance so I can't see the lap my self. I'm just getting infor from her on the phone.
I'm wondering if itwould be better for her not to mess with the problem and have her use her re-store disk. This would bring her back to windows 98, but may be better for her as a beginner. SHe tried doing a regular windows restore (with out the disk), but a message came up saying the re-store file was missing???(she was trying to remember)
Hope someone can help.
Thanks!

Make sure she has installed the drivers for the modem- go to control panel (classic view) select phone and modem options and in the tabs select modems. If her modem is installed and is connected to a 'com' then click properties. This will then tell you wether its having any problems and if it is select troubleshoot- metalicmado _________________ JUST A MEANS TO AN END

We already went there and is says her modem is installed and working properly. This is what's so confusing.
She origianlly on line when she first bought he laptoop. It's only been since she tried to re-intstall XP RPo and got the message I mention in my first post(in bold). Do you or anybody have any idea what the message means or what to do next. We trying to figure out if she deleted something andhow to get it back. Thanx
