Kerio Personal Firewall represents smart, easy-to-use personal security technology that fully protects personal computers against hackers and internal misuse.
Key Features:
Blocks all externally orginated IP traffic and drops the packets, rendering the desktop invisible to potential intruders.
Three security settings for easy configuration; default setting sends alerts for all types of traffic. Permit or deny an indivdual incidence, or create permanent filter rules instantly.
MD5 application signatures protect the computer from Trojan horses imitating trusted programs.
Trusted address group option limits desktop access to known users or computers only.
Opened Connections overview displays clearly what each application is doing at any given moment.
Admin authentication keeps users from changing security policy on their own; KPF can be run as a service to ensure the computer is protected from startup.
Encrypted remote administration allows, syslog reporting and configuration export allow for easy deployment of security settings to remote computers.
I don't play with the rules set much. Keep it rather basic sense I'm behind a Hardware firewall too. But so far I do like it much better than the previous firwall software applications I have used.
Seems to use about 4 to 5 MB of resources on both my Win2k computers. ZA used 8 MB most of the time.
I much prefer KPF to ZA(P).. though since using JD-0812 rules with Proxomitron 4.3 I've gotten more RSODs (*) under XP Pro in a week than I've gotten cumulatively since installing XP. Back to JD-0730.
This is not meant to be a derisive comment on Proxomitron -- a great program all around!
