Actually, that newsletter sign up option is deprecated. There is a whole new newsletter engine I'm working on which should be available this week for sign-ups.

It ensures the double opt-in process which is the industries email best practices:

You sign up with your email address,
An authorization email is sent that email address with an activation link,
If you own that email address you can click the activation link which brings you back here and authorizes CC to send you newsletters.

You see, we stopped sending newsletters because a couple folks reported them as SPAM. So in working with some leading anti-spam agencies I've revamped the entire system to ensure almost everything is double opt-in:

new user registrations,
email address changes,
newsletter opt-ins

Email notifications on PMs and Topic replies are set to 'disabled' by default, and this setup does not need double opt-in. Its generally well known that email notifications are requested to begin with, especially after the user registration is double opt-in.

I take it that even if we previously had our profile configured to receive email, once you have the kinks worked out, we will have to opt-in in order to receive further newsletters.

Can someone tell me if the memory on my computer has anything to do with how big a packet I get when done with one project. I keep getting the same one over and over and its on;y like 23 points.

Hi Kathy, yes... the clients are smart enough to determine which packets you get based on your computer strength. Faster PCs typically get bigger packets. You see each packet has to be completed in a small timeframe. So it makes sense to distribute bigger ones to bigger systems.

But doesn't F@H account for that by allowing a proportionately longer deadline for bigger WUs? I.e. a simple WU has a quick deadline so a slow computer could miss that deadline as well.

ok I've had to delete everything because I tried to d/l new verson which my computer wouldn't hold. I had 2 icons in my system tray until I figured out had to get rid of it. I had to remove both and d/l F&H again.

Here's the log since I d/l again

Sad After working flawlessly for many pause/shutdown cycles, at [02:32:07] FAH reports that: "Checksums don't match (work/wudata_03CP.arc)". This is WU p854_p53dimer854. I understand that some WUs aren't as stable as others and I'm wondering if this happens to be one that has given anyone else headaches. Confused

The multiple references to "Suspending work thread... ", is this something you are doing Cat? Are you not running this 24/7? And what version of Windows do you run?

This multiple shortcuts F@H creates in a new installation is a bit annoying, but easily fixable.
If a work unit has just finished, uninstall F@H first before reinstalling another version. If in the middle of a Work Unit, stop all work, and close any instances in the System tray.
Two program groups will have two shortcuts: Folding@Home and StartUp. NAvigate to the StartButton> Programs> Folding@Home. If there are two shortcuts delete one. If this is two different versions, then delete the older one. There will also be two shortcuts in Start > Programs (or All Programs) > Start Up. Delete the older shortcut.

In the case of the seperate versions, there may (or may not) be two .exe files in the Program Folder "Folding@Home" named "winFAH.exe". A check on properties>versions should identify the newest version and the older one can be deleted.

In a few rare cases, one must cut their losses and just uninstall F@H, loose the work, and reinstall another version.
It just happened to me, however it appears I got partial credit.
