Thanks for your help earlier this week, Bulldog with my CD-ROM problem. My friend's computer, however, keeps getting random pop-ups even when she's not in IE. I ran spybot, ad-aware, a virus scan, and cwshredder, and the problem still persists. I scanned her computer in Hijack This and here's the log. Thanks for any help or thoughts!

You have Peper trojan, which can be a pain to remove.
Please follow these steps, in exactly that order:
Run this uninstaller:
http://home01.wxs.nl/~kleyn080/uninst.exe
When done, use the following tool to delete the files themselves:
http://www.mjc1.com/files/mo/drpeper.html
Download Drpepertobackup.exe, save to disk, and doubleclick the file; it will self extract to c:\.
Find the "C:\drpeper\Find backup and Delete Peper files.vbs" file and double click it.
On the first prompt, copy and paste: FqbOw5.exe and hit ok.
On the second, paste: TqtPy.exe and hit ok again.
It will find all the files, delete them and will make backups in the same folder.
It'll open a text file (Peper.txt) with the list of all files deleted.
When done, restart your computer, and post the contents of that Peper.txt file here, along with a fresh hijackthis log.

Question for the other Mods here.
On November 24, the Spybot update included the Peper Trojan. Can it remove it? Or just detect it?

I don't believe it does an effective job on it, and incidentally neither does Ad-Aware...
If the antivirus won't kill it, I guess we're stuck with with manual removal for the time being...

Yeah...
I'll see if I can provide Patrick with the Peper installers. He may want to give them another whirl. _________________ Tony CLSID List

Hi Dinandez
Just to finish up, you can (and should) delete the entire C:\drpeper folder . You will not need the backups, as you nailed all the correct files.
Also appears as though you are running XP and you should clear your restore points.
Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
Reboot.
Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Tony and Bulldog, thank you very much for your time and input. Just a question for my own curiosity- it was the trojan virus that was causing the pop-ups all along? Awhile ago she had the CommonName worm, so I thought it might have been that, as I had no knowledge the trojan caused pop-ups. I thought it just stored passwords and messed with the system. Thanks!
