I signed up today. After logging in I find nothing but an introduction page saying not much more than it's a bad idea to seed usenet groups with "spam me" messages, and a couple offsite links including one to this forum. Nothing more. Question

Hello Enkid

Thanks for choosing to support the project Thumbs Up

The member-exclusive area is currently under development and will include additional content such as survey information, news and announcements (etc) as Firetrust roll out additional features which are currently under development.

The message in the members area is generally to address the many questions that I have received in respect of using spam-sink Email addresses to post to newsgroups (attracting harvesters and therefore migration over to spammers mailing lists). It also serves to confirm that sign-up's have access to this area.

I'll put a notice on-site to the effect that the member area is currently under development, though as you are now a member, and armed with your registered spam portal address, you can commence supporting the project straight away with no need for anything further.

As per Ikeb's message, please review the additional information on the SpamForce website which gives detailed guidance and suggestions, though please don't hesitate to get right back if you have any further questions at this stage.

Once again - welcome to the team Very Happy

Brendan.

As I haven't found any instructions, should I assume the portal address I should forward my spamsink to is "myusermame at spamforce.com"?

Hi Enkid

The full portal address to set your spam-sinks to forward to should have been confirmed in an Email during the sign-up process. The Email should confirm:

<your-chosen-portal-code>@<your-assigned-URL>

Please keep your full portal address confidential, though I'll check on the system and will reaffirm your complete portal address in a private Email.

On the SpamForce website, the following page should help with further instruction and options available...

http://www.spamforce.com/about.html

The optional portal extensions enable us to build survey data, based on how your spam-sinks are being used in attracting spam. For example, from the examples on the above page, if you were to put a spam-sink address in (for example) a comments block in the HTML of your web page, then you could set it to forward all spam to:

<your-chosen-portal-code>.02@<your-assigned-URL>

By way of another example, if I had used a spam-sink for "unsubscribing" to spam that I received, then all spam from only those spam-sinks would simply be forwarded to:

<your-chosen-portal-code>.03@<your-assigned-URL>

...and so on.

As I say though, the use of portal extension codes (e.g. .02 and .03 in the above examples) is purely optional and not actually a requirement. The alternative is therefore to simply forward all spam-sink messages to

<your-chosen-portal-code>@<your-assigned-URL>

Good hunting Twisted Evil

Brendan

Here is a copy of the only email I got after I signed up, with the activation code xxx'd out. Where is <your-chosen-portal-code>@<your-assigned-URL> ? I don't see it here, nor did either the signup process or the member site give me the option to create such a thing.

I must be dense today. If uname is supposed to INCLUDE a URL i.e. the uname must be in the form of an email address, that would seem to satisy the gist of it...so I tried to change it to such...

The signup instructions say
"You can use the removal link on the sign-up form to completely remove and then re-enter your changed details at any time. However, please note that once you are removed then access to special features and services on this site will no longer be available."

the signup page is http://www.spamforce.com/supporters/signup_form.php

There is only the form and a SUBMIT link on this page. There is no REMOVE link.

If I enter my uname, it's rejected because it already exists.
If I type a new uname@url , it's rejected because my contact email address is already associated with a different uname.

I signed up with a new uname@url and new contact address
I got the "please activate" email and followed the link
I copied and pasted the vcode from the validation page into the form
"Sorry, the validation code is incorrect."
I hand typed it in
"Sorry, the validation code is incorrect."
I copied from the email and pasted it into the form
"Sorry, the validation code is incorrect."

I tried it using both Firefox and Internet Explorer
I waited awhile and tried it again
"Sorry, the validation code is incorrect."

I give up

Hi Enkid.

I'm sorry that you have been having signup problems which I don't understand but will investigate.

Obviously something somewhere must have got screwed up as can happen occasionally, but there are new members joining all the time and none has reported this problem to-date.

If any others have had signup or login problems then please let me know as I would like to get any issues bottomed out (thanks).

Enkid - To avoid further frustration I'll can however create an account for you and forward the details, should you still wish to support the project. If so then please let me know. Alternatively, I provide below what will be an amendment to the website to avoid confusion in future.

This is a content error as it should say

The login panel is available at http://www.spamforce.com/supporters/login.php

I'll be correcting this statement shortly, and thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Brendan.

Using the remove link on the sign-in form clears the form only.

Thanks Enkid.

Something has clearly changed since the script developers ironed out a few security issues initially. I'll get back to them and get this sorted out as it may be an issue relating to permissions.

In the meantime, I'll sort out your account and you'll receive appropriate details shortly.

Best regards,
Brendan.
