When I boot my PC, running XP Professional, I'm shown the error message:

"autochk.exe not found. skipping autocheck."

After which, XP continues to boot normally. A little trawling around the web brought up this thread in relation to the problem, which suggests removing Windows XP Hotfix KB824105. However, I've removed the backup files for this hotfix and so can't remove it.

Anyone have any idea how to sort it? It's not a serious error but it's bloody annoying.

Have you made any changes to your system lately, mostly your hd. Any partitioning, large-scale drive cleanup, defrag etc.? Also in my experience sometimes if somethings just a minor annoyance and doesn't seem to be causing any serious problems, sometimes fixing things can cause more problems then just leaving it. It's always good to make sure that something isn't more serious than it seems, but sometimes living with an annoyance can prevent the need for a format.
