|
|
I am running a Dell 8300 with 2ghz ram and Radeon9800. I use some 3d modeling programs, and the vendor had me adjust my paging file size. Ever since then I have been experiencing many problems. These memory issues have me restarting every hour. Ill explain.
1. Windows Explorer crash- Every time I turn on my comp, within the first 1 or 2 clicks my Windows Explorer crashes and resets. This happens a few times per session. Once this happens, I lose the the MS Office Toolbar for a second, when it returns it does not constrain the other windows/programs from going under it so I have to put it on autohide to see the edge of my prog. This is the least of my problems.
2. Memory issues- Now that I have adjusted my paging file, (I have tried it a few ways) I have to restart very often. As I use the comp I start losing the ability to access network drives, then I lose the ability to access my email (Outlook). I get a system message saying "XDrive Not Accessible Insufficient system resources exist to compete the requested service." This is a real problem, and cut my working ability in half due to constant restarts.
3. Slow loading windows- When i open any window, i.e. explorer, programx, or email the window takes forever to finish loading. What I mean is I get a bunch of blank boxes where dropdowns and menus should appear, and they slowly populate with the correct images.
Thank you

Hi-
Have you considered setting it back to Windows defaults? I do a lot of gaming, video, photo work on mine w/1GB of ram & have never experienced any of the errors you're describing at all.
With 2GB of ram, I'd think XP could handle your apps just fine?
The other thought is that perhaps the ram has gone bad. But if these issues didn't start until after you made the changes- then I'd start over at default.

Set your paging file size as explained by wawadave. Then reduce the hardware acceleration on the Radeon. This should cure the problem and allow your 3D CAD applications to run unaffected.
Has the RAM been installed recently? or has it been installed for a while? I take it this problem started after you installed a new aplication? _________________ Lowthercat UK
