|
|
I am planning to upgrade my XP Home machine to XP Pro. Three questions:
I currently have 5 user accounts. Will these carry over or will I need to set them up again?
I backed up the "my documents" folder of each account to a CD which should be all of our data files, anythinng else I need to do before the upgrade?
I am running NAV 2004 and NPF 2004 - do I need to uninstall these and reinstall after upgrade?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

back up faverits and any email files acounts etc.
make dang sure your systems vermin free first!
Download and install the newest version http://safer-networking.org/en/ (1.3.1 TX){DSO false positive fix patch} of SpyBot Search and Destroy http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4392.html - Note: If you have been using SpyBot S&D for some time, chances are you have version 1.2. For some unknown reason, the 1.2’s update feature does not alert you to the new version so you must download and install the new from the link above. Also, download and install AdAware http://lavasoft.element5.com/support/download/ - there are free versions of each. Before scanning, use each programs’ update option to get the latest signature files, then scan, using SpyBot first.
-------
pick "one" of the trojin scanners. more if not solved.
a² Free is also a good malware cleaner and can be downloaded from: http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/download/?
TrojanHunter (trial) CastleCops /downloads-file-83.html Excelent app!
ewido trojin scanner CastleCops /downloads-file-357.html (w2k-xp only)has free version.
--------
Use "one" of these free on-line scanners (note some spyware, viruses and trojins have been known to disable PC based AV scanners):

Thanks,
Pretty sure I am clean - run the latest adaware and spybot pretty much weekly. The trend micro online scan probably would not be a bad idea.
The upgrade instructions talk about setting up the accounts when the upgrade is complete and I was not sure if this only applied to pre XP OS or if the upgrade would force you to start over.
One other note, I already installed SP2 to XP Home, I imagine this won't be a problem as the XP Pro upgrade also has SP2.

Just a followup - upgrade went trouble free though it ran for a good 45 min - I DID uninstall my NPF and NAV first then reinstalled after upgrade - looks like all files and settings still there.
Thanks for the help.
